I had a conversation with a good friend recently about her slight struggle to get herself back on track consistently with her training, activity etc… Get her mojo back, so to speak. With the increase of work and entering the summer time, she’s gotten off track from her usual routine and it has been harder than ever stringing everything back together so she can feel like Wonder Woman again. I, too, have had this struggle, especially during and towards the current state we are in with Covid. If you read my last blog (https://www.212healthandperformance.com/212blogfull/2021/6/8/212-turns-12 ), you got a small glimpse of the stress I was under and I just lost sight taking care of me. We are always the first thing we lose sight of when things get a little out of whack, but I’m here to give you a few suggestions on how to get your mojo back like I did. It begins with asking some questions of yourself.
Can you create small wins?
Too often we aim to make huge strides, but sometimes the climate of our lives does not allow for that to happen and we have to be okay with that for the time being. So instead, we need to adjust our mindset a little to know that taking a step forward, no matter how big or small, is still a step forward. Maybe life right now allows for a good 20 minutes a day, not what you may want, but it is a start on rebuilding your routine. Doing this will take the unneeded pressure you may have put on yourself, and that may be the main thing that is throwing you off.
Where’s your head at?
It all starts at the top. Know where your head is at. Your head leads the way and it may not be in the right place to get you back to where you want to be. If you know that, then it’s figuring out what you have to do to get back in to the right mindset. One of the main things I looked for was my support. To just be able to talk and get some encouragement here and there helped me keep it going as I pushed every day to stay the course. Posting my workouts on social media and tagging some of my old teammates I used to always train with keeps me going. They helped me at least do something, even when I didn’t feel like doing a damn thing.
How did others do it?
We like to believe that we are the only person that is going through or has been through something, but the reality is that everyone goes through a version of something we have gone through. Sometimes it’s the closest people to you, but you never know until you ask the question or they see you going through it and bring it up. Ask questions of those around you to see how they did it, and start to put together your own game plan by blending together all the information that you found out to help you be successful. My mother always said, you never know until you ask.
What does your circle look like?
Your circle is the people you spend your time with, your supporters or hidden detractors. Is your circle made up of the people that will make this challenge you’re dealing with harder to achieve or will they make it easier? What do I mean by that? You know you have people in your circle that will encourage you, support you, push you no matter what because it’s something you need to achieve for yourself. Then there are those that may push their own agenda by persuading you to do something else that isn’t on course with what you want. Assess your circle and start to converse more with those that will help push you forward.
In order to get your mojo back, I think it starts by answering these 4 questions. Once you can get these questions answered, you will have your mojo back in no time! I know for me, that’s what it took and given all the distractions, I’m still able to make sure I get my training in. It may not always be an over the top amazing workout where it felt like everything clicked, but I always make sure to get something in. Until next time, continue to live life 1 degree above the rest.
