We just passed Halloween and that is a sign that the holiday season is soon upon us. I hope everyone had an amazing Halloween! I know I did. It is one day that I truly enjoy, even more so because of Team Taylor (Myself, Adrionna and Declan). I enjoy each year trying to match costumes with my daughter and my son. This year my daughter was a vampire and my son was Tow-Mater, matching Mater was a challenge but in the end, I chose to be a mechanic. Unfortunately, Declan and I didn’t get a picture this year because he wouldn’t sit still with all the prospects of free candy everywhere.
Okay, sorry for the detour and back to the subject at hand, the Holiday Season. Soon enough, we will all be faced with the decisions of staying on track with our healthy lifestyles. The thoughts of just letting things go, and getting back on track come the new year becomes reality. I beg you to keep yourself going, no matter what. Just make the adjustments to be successful. Let’s avoid the, “Man you lose it quick” statements we, as coaches, always hear when someone, for one reason or another, pushes their training to the side. How about, worse case scenario, if you have to, shorten the training time per workout. If you are really stressed and pulled everywhere then maybe reduce your workout frequency a little bit, instead of 4 training sessions, maybe opt for 3.
If you can push through and stay consistent then your overall routine will be better because your workouts have become a part of your daily routine. So you will stay conscious of your eating habits, you will stay on your sleep schedule and daily activities. This will help stave off the feeling of losing yourself in the Holiday rush. It will also keep the holiday weight gain that some deal with at bay. The big one for me is keeping the stress levels from going out of whack as a result of the constant push and pull that comes with the holiday season.
Oh!! How can I forget the recent change in time and the level of depression that has seems to overcome a lot of people with our recent, ‘fall back” time change. The comments are everywhere, “I can’t believe it’s only 5:00, it feels like it’s midnight” and other variations of that statement. Stay exercising to keep you feeling charged up and not defeated by the time change.
If you don’t have a plan in place to keep you going through this holiday season, make sure you take a second to make one to help get you through. It will help you hit the ground running in 2023, unlike some who will still be in the starting blocks when we hit 2023. Remember, you have coaches around that would love to assist you to be successful. Until next time, continue to live life 1 degree above the rest. Holiday season, here we come!!!
