2023, the new year is upon us and rolling on. As I’m sure we have all noticed, for most, this is a time to get refocused on our health. That means something different to everyone, usually though it involves getting into something that is a gym or resembles something like a gym. Wanting to create these new habits can be a challenge just like most new habits we try to form. If you find it hard to make the gym, fitness, movement a new habit for you, here are 3 simple and quick tips to try to put in motion to help you keep your body in motion.
Have a beginning and an end
I know it feels daunting to start something that is foreign to you and have to think that it’s forever. It’s one thing to say, “I’m going to do X,Y,Z”. Putting it into action and doing it, with the thought of it being forever may overwhelm you. So as you are making this change, whatever you do, have a beginning and an end. It may be a 5 week long training program with a coach or 4 week long dancing program. Just knowing there is an end, will allow you mentally to truly grasp it and go for it. Over that time, it should become a habit. Once it ends, you can create another beginning and end with the same program or try something different then come back to it. Once it is over, you will surely miss it and want to keep it going.
Put it in your way
Whichever gym or facility you plan to make your home to start this change and new habit, make sure you can put it along your usual travel path. By doing this, it creates the convenience of getting there, which increases the chances that will make it. More likely you will go there more often than not.
Take little bites, you’ll get sick stuffing your face
Set little goals for yourself to help you move in the direction you want to go. For example, holding a plank for 10 more seconds, aiming for doing 1 more push up, talking to one unfamiliar face, or do an exercise with a weight you never tried before. All these little things add up over time and pay huge dividends in the long run. The Compound Effect, guaranteed to be effective.
Try these 3 simple things to help you create a new habit of health, fitness and movement in your life. Until next time, continue to live life 1 degree above the rest!
