Liz Macnie

Happy New Year everyone! My name is Liz and I am surprised to be the January spotlight member!

I came to 212 through my friend Michelle MacDonald. We both were into fitness and had run a few festive 5Ks together. She had enthusiastically talked about 212 and about the Jeans Challenge. With my big 5-0 looming, I decided I needed some motivation and change as I was bored with the box gym I was attending. When the Jeans Challenge became available that fall, Michelle not only encouraged me to do it, she signed up with me! Alicia was so sweet and welcoming, but her workouts were unlike any I had done- not in The Firm home video series, not in Zumba, not in aerobics, not at Bally’s or anywhere else I had exercised. My body was killing me, but I loved it. I liked the mental and physical transformation I felt. I loved how focused I had to be when learning the kettlebell moves. I liked the accomplishment I felt after an especially challenging class. Becoming a member once that challenge ended was a no brainer!

When I was in my second Jeans Challenge, I fell and broke my wrist. I thought “I’ll never get back to where I was.” But thanks to the team’s shared encouragement, I was able to get there!

212 has been such a positive- especially through tough times. Showing up and seeing the warm smiles, hearing the daily playlists, and engaging in friendly banter really bouys each day. Seeing the creativity and dedication the whole team puts forth (especially during the past year) is so unique to 212. I know I echo previous spotlight members’ words when I say 212 is a family and I appreciate every coach’s talents and support! Kerry and Heather have tried coaxing me into trying the Superhero Challenge, but my response has been “Every athlete needs a cheering section and I’m firmly part of that.” And I am a huge fan of 212! Happy New Year!
